Does APL take donations?

The Andover Public Library welcomes donations of books, CDs, and movies. Unfortunately, we cannot accept magazines, textbooks or dated materials such as encyclopedias. If an item cannot be added to our collection, we will sell the item in our book sale to raise money for our summer reading programs.

What do I need to get a library card at APL?
  1. Any Kansas resident can get an Andover Library Card. You do not need to be an Andover resident. You will need a current Driver’s License to get a library card. If your license has your correct address, then you do not need to bring anything else with you. If your license does not have your correct address, please bring an item with your name and current address printed on it. For example, checks, rental agreement, mail, or insurance card are all acceptable items.
  2. The person whose name will be on the library card must be at the library at the time of registration.
  3. Children under the age of 16 must have a parent/guardian with a current driver’s license with them at the time of registration. Children over the age of 4 may get their own library card at their parents’ discretion.

How can I place a hold online?

From the Andover Public Library website, click on Catalog (at the top of the screen).

Log in with your library card number as your username and your last name in lowercase letters as your password.

Type your search into the Quick Library Search box.

Once you have received the results of your search, you will see 3 buttons to the right of each listing: Availability, Full Display, and Place Request.

Availability tells you if an item is already checked out and when it is due.

Full Display gives you more information about the book. Also, it will give you the number of patrons who have a hold on the item.

Place Request allows you to place a hold. If you have not already logged in, you will be asked to do so now.

On the next screen click Submit Request.

At this point, the website should tell you that your request has been placed. You can click on Return to Search Results to continue searching.

If we do not own a title, it may be possible to borrow it from another library in Kansas. You can request items that have been out for over 6 months. InterLibrary Loan requests can be made in person, over the phone, or online. For a link to the online ILL request form, click here.
