The Andover Public Library is primarily funded by an ad valorum property tax in Andover. Grants, fees and private contributors supplement this income. While tax support is essential, it does not cover all the library’s needs. Gifts from individuals are always welcome and appreciated. Every gift, regardless of size, will be used to enhance library services. You may use your credit card; all donations are tax deductible.
Ways to Give to the Library:
Make a general gift to the library.
Honor someone special with a dedicated book.
Make a memorial gift to the library or a bequest in your will.

Dedicated Book
A great way to honor a loved one, a friend or employee and to commemorate a special occasion. The library completes a special bookplate and secures it to the inside front cover of the book purchased with your donation. There is a minimum $35.00 gift for adult books and $20.00 for children’s books.

Memorials and Bequests
Memorials or tribute gifts may be given in the name of a deceased loved one with the gifts designated for a special service or program or the gift may be used at the discretion of the library board of trustees.
BEQUEST IN YOUR WILL – People have included the library in their wills and these bequests enable us to do many things we would not be able to do otherwise. If you have enjoyed the library and want to insure that others enjoy it, why not include us in your will. Here are a few suggestions:
• Decide on the amount you wish to give to the library.
• Contact your attorney to advise him or her of your wishes.
• Request that your will include a bequest to the library.
Some people have put their money in a trust. During their lives they receive the earnings from the investment. After their passing the library can either receive the principal of the trust or the library could receive the earnings from the investment. Discuss these options with your attorney or financial advisor.
If you wish to inquire about either of these opportunities, please contact Tom Taylor, Library Director, at tomtaylor@andoverlibrary.org
Donate Books
The Andover Public Library is happy to accept donations of books, both hardcover and paperback. However, we cannot accept magazines, textbooks and other reference materials that are quickly outdated. If the library cannot use the donated books on our shelves, we sell them to raise money for children’s programming in the library.
Donating your used books to the library is a good way to recycle books you no longer want and help the library at the same time. A gift of used books to the library can also be tax deductible.
For more information about donating books to libraries, check out this informative article by Ruth DeWitt, Friends Coordinator at the Lawrence Public Library.
You Can Help!
Volunteering at the library can be a fun and rewarding experience. You can help with the gift of your time and your talents as one of our adult or teen volunteers. Each year, the time put in by our volunteer teams save thousands of hours of work for the library staff, a savings equivalent to about $35,000 each year.
Adult Volunteers
Volunteer opportunities for adults include but are not limited to:
• Shelving books
• Outdoor beautification
• Special events
• Straightening shelves
